Studio 316 hosted the Film Studio Series- ‘Basquiat’ on Friday, May 28th, 2010

Synopsis: At age 19, Jean Michel Basquiat was a poor, struggling graffiti artist. Eight years later, he was one of the most famous, acclaimed painters in the world — and dead of a heroin overdose. “Basquiat” details the tumultuous years in between, concentrating on his meteoric rise within Soho’s trendy art world. The charismatic but self-destructive Basquiat had his share of personal demons, including his mother’s mental illness, and his hatred of middle-class society… which courted and exploited him. The young artist’s heroin addiction eventually led to his death, extinguishing a great talent in the process.

Award-winning filmmakers Pam and Walt Gilmore of Burbank, appeared for their screening of their documentary “Monet’s Garden” in Thousand Oaks on Friday, March 26. The short film is about the seminal French Impressionist painter and his garden in France. The film launched the council’s new ‘Film Studio’ program, which also had a screening of the event sponsor Arts Council of the Conejo Valley’s promotional video “Voice of the Arts.”

“We’re excited and honored to be attending this screening of our film,” said the Gilmores.

VENTURA COUNTY FAIR 2009

A special congratulations to this years winners at the Ventura County Fair. I couldn’t be more thrilled or proud…..all the hard work has paid off!

Out of the eight students that participated, Studio 316 students garnered thirteen 1st place awards, three 2nd place awards, one 3rd place, two honorable mentions and had one piece nominated for BEST IN SHOW.

Again congratulations and thanks for ‘representing…’

“2009-And the Winner Is” Exhibit

The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley exhibit in The Galleria at the Hillcrest Center for The Arts is currently featuring six student-artworks chosen by Studio 316. It is a recognition of some the studio’s winners within the past two years. The artist reception was held on Saturday, July 11th, 2009, featuring works by Karen Thorgusen, Sandy Barry, Ann Augustine, Brooke Dailey, Emma McNay, and Makenna Mandrell. The exhibit will be on display from July 11-September 29, 2009.

Ventura County Fair 2008…..and the winners are…..

A special congratulations to the participants at the Ventura County Fair from Studio 316!

This year’s fair marks the first time students of the studio have participated; several students won awards ranging from 1st through honorable mention with many students winning several awards.

Thanks to all for your participation and hard work….it paid off!!
